Artificial Intelligence, also known as AI, is a robot that generates any answer. Over The past few years, the use of AI has grown exponentially. Students, teachers, and employees can simply search up any AI machine such as Chat GPT and ask a question to receive answers instantly. The usage of AI has greatly changed education and society. However, many people disagree with AI. They believe it is dangerous and will negatively impact society. It is just the beginning of AI. Who knows what will happen in the future?
The Pros of AI
Many students and workers use AI for difficult tasks. People argue that AI is extremely accurate. The information is pre-programed therefore it is rare for AI to be incorrect. Therefore, AI is very reliable. Many people trust AI better than themselves. Major AI techniques are commonly found in healthcare. For example, “An example of the reduction in human error through AI is the use of robotic surgery systems, which can perform complex procedures with precision and accuracy, reducing the risk of human error and improving patient safety in healthcare.”
Not only is it used in healthcare, but in smaller tasks such as writing essays and homework. AI is very accessible in which many students and workers rely on AI machines as a guide or for information.
People use AI for entertainment. Snapchat recently launched an AI bot called “My AI.” Other apps such as Spotify use AI for profit. For example, “The DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you. This feature, first rolling out in beta, will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice.” This quote is describing that Spotify has released a new feature in which AI is your personal DJ. This could greatly impact the music and DJ industry in the future due to AI ability to do a human’s job.
Overall, the usage of AI is becoming an essential tool in society. However, it has its flaws.
The Cons of AI
Many people are overusing AI. society has become so dependent on AI that they rely on robots for every problem from schoolwork to homelife. Students use AI to cheat on homework and classwork. This causes students to become uneducated because they are not using their critical thinking skills. “Kids do not trust their own instincts and their own responses. They would rather have a literal robot confirm that they are right. I want kids to create an original thought and it is not original if a robot tells you,” says Ms. Quinn, a Friends Academy English Teacher. Original thinking is very important for students to learn and create an argument in the future.
Quinn also says, “For jobs that require critical thinking, or creative thinking, if you ask a robot that is pre-determined to create a set of code to generate an answer, you are not innovating,” concluding that it is very important for young students to rely on their own answers.
Not only does AI affect students, but the information is very broad. When asking a robot a question, it will not go into sufficient detail about the topic. It is more reliable to do original research than have a robot summarize a topic.
The future of AI is predicted to increase. Some believe that society will become extremely dependent on AI if they don’t use their own knowledge. This may cause life to become easier, less thinking, less work, just what every student would want. However, if overused, AI can cause harm. As stated earlier in the article, people tend to rely on the feature more than their own minds. In conclusion, society needs to regulate our usage of artificial intelligence, creating a healthy balance between artificial and human intelligence.
