Friends Academy is no stranger to festivities. Once the weather turns cold and students begin to break out their crew necks, holiday spirit arrives on campus. Around this time of year, the school holds many holiday themed events to bring joy to the community. Each event is a unique and integral part of the winter season at Friends Academy. Let’s dive into each one!
Gift Wrapping
Annually, Friends Academy works to shed light on communities other than our own, hence the annual gift wrapping activity that takes place in our respective community groups. Not only is this activity a lovely time to converse with other grade levels, but the work done is directed to a beautiful cause. This event is more impactful than most community group activities because it greatly helps those outside of our community. By sending these gifts to local shelters, we not only improve our own holiday season, but the holiday season of others too.
Holiday Karaoke:
A yearly staple, this long awaited event of the season brings a crowded library with hollering students ready to cheer on their classmates and faculty members. Last year our peers brought us some truly remarkable performances, and I must admit, I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did! Watching the performances brought an inexplicable amount of joy to myself, my friends, and the rest of the high school. Now, I don’t particularly have the guts nor the voice to participate, but props to all the amazing participants of the last few years! Your comradery is greatly appreciated!
“Holidays with Friends”:
If you’re fond of the Holiday Karaoke, perhaps you’ll also enjoy the orchestral sounds brought to you by the Friends Academy arts department. “Holiday with Friends” showcases the talents of both our instrumentalists and vocalists in one impressive night. What you see on the stage is exceptional, however I find the most joyous part of the event to be what happens pre-show backstage. All the musicians at Friends come together and hang out with one another to practice, eat, or simply enjoy each other’s company. My favorite part of the night is being around the orchestra and band, laughing in the music wing.
I think that’s the beauty of the Holidays here on Campus. The festivities demonstrate community, strengthen bonds between students and staff, and bring a certain infectious joy to campus.
