Watching movies and shows is a great way to pass the time and people never want their favorite movie or television series to end, as then they would have to find a new story to be invested in. However, there are times when producers need to let certain shows and movies come to an end.
Star Wars fans understand this very well. Star Wars movies 4, 5, and 6 were amazing and concluded the story, but both fans and producers wanted more. As a result, they created the prequels, 1, 2, and 3. While these films received some criticism, they were well-received and are considered good movies. The issue with Star Wars is that the franchise has already shown how it all started and ended, yet they still want to create more content. In an effort to generate additional revenue and continue the franchise, filmmakers produced Episode 7, The Force Awakens. This film received almost as many 1-star reviews as it did 5-star reviews. These negative reviews have only gotten more and more common. The franchise’s most recent show, The Acolyte, received a 2.2 rating with most of the reviews being 1-star reviews. The Star Wars franchise went from having almost all 5-star reviews to now a majority of 1-star reviews. This demonstrates that while it is a great movie franchise, they either need to change something or just let it end.
Another movie franchise that is beginning to face challenges is Marvel. Marvel is a prime example of recognizing when there is a problem and making efforts to address it. When comparing reviews of Thor and new creations such as Thor Love and Thunder, the newer creations are receiving significantly worse reviews. In addition, a Marvel television show that failed was She-Hulk. The show did not make a lot of money and the majority of its reviews were negative.
Despite these mishaps, Marvel has been able to recover from their poor-performing creations with other movies such as Deadpool and Wolverine, which made record-breaking money in the box office and were incredibly popular. Ultimately, franchises like Star Wars and Marvel which have endured for so long must either rejuvenate their content to keep it engaging or allow it to conclude on a high note and permanently step away.
