Myself and many other Friends Academy girls stop by the bathrooms multiple times a day just to look at ourselves in the mirror, reapply lip gloss, and almost never use the bathroom unless it’s an emergency because public bathrooms gross us out. Just kidding, well not really. I think almost every time I’ve walked into the bathroom, I usually see somebody I know, which means we have to complement each other’s hair, pants, makeup, or just anything about them while waiting for one of the stalls to become available. This is a common occurrence since most of the girls in the upper school are nice, most… Just kidding, not really. On the other hand sometimes when you walk into the girls bathroom you end up seeing miserable teenage girls who could care less about your outfit. (When you encounter this situation, look the other way, because you will not exchange smiles or compliments.) I will be ranking all of the FA girls bathrooms based on the social aspects I’ve listed above and their personal problems which affect their use.
#1: Lower Level of the Library
This bathroom is ranked first on my list for three main reasons: it has two sets of mirrors, it’s spacious, and it’s not very busy compared to the other bathrooms on campus. The mirrors allow girls to view their full outfit without going on our tippy toes, which is very helpful to check to see that your skirt isn’t too short. However the lighting in this bathroom is absolutely horrible, so don’t look too closely in the mirrors because you will see every imperfection on your face from the pale yellow lights. It’s fine, though, because this bathroom is rarely ever crowded, which compensates for its atrocious lighting. There aren’t any visible problems with this bathroom, so I have to put it in first place.
2# Girls Bathroom next to the weight room
Even with one stall, this bathroom gets ranked second. This ranking is because it’s usually not busy unless it’s right after school before sports start. The less crowded the bathrooms are, the higher ranked they are since it’s so much easier to “use” the bathroom and go on with your day. I love that there is a gray shelf in front of the sink to put your phone on when washing your hands, very important. Bathrooms that have a place for your phone were definitely designed by a woman.
3# Dolan Center
Many stalls, (usually busy during lunch), have had some odd things happen in them. This bathroom has definitely gone through alot. I’ve heard many stories of lower and middle school students putting weird objects in the toilets. So I’m not sure if third is the best ranking for this bathroom, but since it has a lot of stalls you don’t have to wait unless it’s really busy which is pretty nice. The floors are always wet because whoever designed the bathroom decided to put the paper towel dispenser 5 feet away from the sinks. Not a smart idea, because around midday the bathroom resembles an ocean, I’m not joking. There is nowhere to put your phone when washing your hands, which is a con, but it’s fine. When this occurs, you have to painfully put your phone on the wet counter or put it under your armpit – don’t judge everyone.
#4 Girls Locker Room
I don’t have a lot to say about this bathroom. It’s pretty small with only two stalls causing one to almost always end up bumping into somebody. After school before sports, the bathroom gets busy but during the day if you’re in the field house it’s almost always empty.
5# Second Floor, Frost Hall
Almost every time I’ve tried to use the mirror in this bathroom, I’m almost immediately smacked with the opening door of the bathroom, and the girl behind the door usually says, “Oh my gosh, did I hit you” and then everyone in my position replies with, “No you’re good!” This has happened so many times, I’ve lost count. Not just to me but I’ve seen it happen to countless others. The reason behind this hazard is that the girls bathrooms in Frost Hall are incredibly small. Therefore they are ranked the lowest. Even though both Frost Hall bathrooms are the worst, the second floor gets some credit for the shelf next to the sink to place your phone since the third floor one does in fact not have this luxury.
6# Third Floor, Frost Hall
The third floor bathroom has to be the worst of them all. There are two stalls, but the smaller stall’s door doesn’t even close without shaking the whole school by slamming it shut. I’ve never been more annoyed by a bathroom in my entire life. There is also no shelf by the sink and you will also face the same problem of getting hit by the bathroom door since there is actually no space. I don’t even want to continue explaining this bathroom because it’s just not worth the time – this has to be the worst one of them all.
Every single bathroom after 11am is covered in water, the floors of the second and third floor bathroom have garbage bins filled up to the brim with paper towels since one is definitely not enough to wipe your hands. I’ve seen almost every single girl tear up to four pieces of paper towel to completely dry their hands. I don’t think it’s good for the environment, but it’s a crime to walk around with barely dried hands. If you know the feeling, it’s not nice. Anyways, this ranking was necessary and I’m sure many girls can agree with me about the majority of these problems. Hopefully Friends Academy can do something to fix them, but for now we can just complain about it.
