The girls’ varsity basketball team has had an incredible season so far, even as they hit a few bumps in the road at the start. The absence of many seniors this year, who played major roles on the team, caused the players to completely shift, now consisting of an entirely different dynamic of players from both the middle school and upper school. Figuring out how to work together and get in sync with their new team was a challenge, but they never gave up.
Every practice and game helped them get stronger, and confidence was regained after their first win against Valley Stream Central, with an incredibly close game resulting in the score of 26-25. As the season went on, the team really started to play their best basketball, and as the season came to an end, the team had completely transformed from the beginning of the season in November to now. Looking back, it was amazing to see how far they’d come. This season has been full of hard work, growth, and unforgettable moments.
After a tough loss to Malverne, the final score of 20-41 left the team discouraged, but it was clear that they weren’t going to let this setback define their season. They focused on improving their game and shaking off the frustration from this tough defeat.
The turnaround came soon after, beginning with a victory over Roosevelt. With a solid 46-21 win, the team found their rhythm, playing with the intensity that had been faulty earlier in the season. This win was a statement, showing that they had learned from their mistakes and were ready to fight for every point.
Then came the game against Oyster Bay—an opponent they hadn’t beaten in years. The tension was increasingly high, and the girls wanted to win again just like they did against Roosevelt. They pulled off a 29-24 win, proving not only to their rivals but also to themselves that they could stick with a team just as skilled as they were. The victory marked a turning point, as they savored their winning streak into the next phase of the season, eager to continue this success.
After tough losses to Seaford and North Shore, the team was feeling the weight of the setbacks. The games were not easy, and the scoreboard didn’t reflect the hard work they had put into the games. It would have been easy for the girls to get discouraged, but instead, they used those losses as fuel to keep pushing forward. They knew they had the talent to bounce back, and that’s exactly what they did.
The next challenge came in the form of Island Trees High School, another team they hadn’t beaten in a while. Despite the pressure and the lingering frustration from previous games, the girls came out focused and determined. In a hard-fought battle, they managed to secure a 43-37 win, proving once again that the victory felt like a major achievement—not just because of the win itself, but because it showed their resilience to fight through the hardships that occurred throughout the game.
Through the ups and downs, the team has proven time and time again that they will never back down. The road hasn’t been easy, but with every challenge, they’ve grown stronger. No matter what comes next, they will continue to fight, keep improving, and push forward with unwavering determination.
