The 67th Annual Grammys, organized by the Recording Academy, took place on February 2nd, 2025 in Los Angeles. The Grammys are known as one of the music industry’s most prominent events to take place every year, featuring many artists: some who have been a part of the industry for quite some time, and others who are new, upcoming artists. From the nominees, a few of 2024-2025’s most popular hits were cast to be a choice in various categories. Not only were there many notable songs and albums nominated, but several performances from Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, and Cynthia Erivo stood out the most during the night of the Grammys.
Beyoncé, the most Grammy-winning artist, had finally achieved her long-awaited goal. Throughout Beyoncé’s whole musical career, not once has she won Album of the Year. Yet, this year, her album Cowboy Carter, which also won Country Album of the Year, won Beyoncé her first award in that category. She took the stage with her daughter, Blue Ivy, and thanked and praised the firefighters that presented the award to her. In her speech, Beyoncé said “I just feel very full and very honored,…It’s been many, many years.” (At this time, both Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga were seen in the crowd crying for different reasons.)
For Kendrick Lamar, his album “Not Like Us” was nominated in 5 distinct categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video. In fact, it won all 5 grammys. The song was written as a result of the lyrical feud with Drake, also known as a diss-track. However, because of the devastating wild fires a month ago that were widespread in Los Angeles, it became an anthem for them.
Although there are many popular artists that have been around for so long, there were several newcomer artists that took the spotlight as the nominees for Best New Artist. After receiving six nominations for her 2023 album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” and her popular hit “Good Luck Babe!”, the first-time nominee, Chappell Roan, won her first Grammy award. Roan won against nominees Shaboozey, Doechii, and Sabrina Carpenter to win the best new artist category. Not only did she win her first Grammy award, but she also delivered one of telecast’s best and most memorable speeches – she urged for developing artists to gain greater access to resources from other artists to help build them up and give them the support they need.
There were so many more charming artists that won Grammys but these are only a few. Aside from Grammy awards, there were also many performances that hyped up the live crowd of people on the night of the event. Sabrina Carpenter put on a both “charming and deeply theatrical medley of “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” Boone did his usual backflips as he thundered through “Beautiful Things.” Doechii delivered a stellar and killing performance of “Catfish” and “Denial is a River.” Billie Eilish performed her hit “Birds of a Feather.” As for Chappell, her performance of “Pink Pony Club” was one of the most spectacular highlights of the night. In the end, the night was full of many memories and will forever leave a lasting mark on the music industry.
