Super Bowl Preview

Super Bowl Preview

As the 2022-23 NFL season comes to a close, only one game remains. Super Bowl LVII.

This year’s Super Bowl consists of many compelling storylines, including the brothers, Jason and Travis Kelce facing off against each other. This will be the first time ever that brothers have played for opposing teams in the super bowl. Another is the crossover between the two Coaches. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid was the head coach in Philadelphia prior to his job in KC. Meanwhile, Nick Sirianni, eagles head coach, previously worked for Kansas City’s coaching staff. There are many other connections between the two teams, however, the backgrounds of the teams and a preview of the matchup is this article’s focus.

Philadelphia Eagles:

Philadelphia is coming into Arizona fittingly red-hot, having out-scored their two postseason opponents 69-14. However, some may attribute this – and Philadelphia’s regular season success – to an easy schedule. It is important to remember that teams do not choose their opponents, and only play who is in front of them. This Eagles team is regarded as a “super team” and with a win in the big game, also as historical. The team has broken multiple franchise records, such as the sack record of 70 and having two 1,000+ yard receivers on the season. This season marks the return of the Philadelphia Eagles, as just two years ago, a team rebuild looked to be on the horizon following a four win season. This is significant because only three years prior Philadelphia was soaring following the city’s first championship win in the super bowl era.

Kansas City Chiefs:

The story for the Chiefs is quite different from that of the Eagles. KC has been to five consecutive conference championships, with now their third super bowl appearance and only one ring to show for it. Prior to the 2022-23 regular season, many predicted a regression following the loss of superstar receiver Tyreek Hill. However, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs have defied those expectations. This Super Bowl is important for the Chiefs because a win will cement the dynasty emerging in Kansas City, as well as QB Patrick Mahomes’s legacy as a top 10 quarterback of all time.

SUPER BOWL PREVIEW:

Here we are, at the culmination of the 2022-23 NFL season.

The most talented quarterback of all time and future hall of famer Patrick Mahomes is in his 3rd super bowl playing on an injured ankle. The Eagles defense, especially the historic defensive line, will game-plan on forcing Mahomes to run on that high-ankle sprain. The weakest link on the eagles defense has been their run defense, however Kansas City’s run offense is not the strongest either, and will perhaps force the ball into the hands of super star Tight End Travis Kelce. On the flipside, Philadelphia will most likely aim to run the ball, as MVP candidate QB Jalen Hurts has been dealing with a nagging shoulder injury since the 18th of December. The run game, behind their stellar offensive line, has gashed their opponents this season.

At the time of publication, the Super Bowl will have already happened; however, this preview was written beforehand. Go Birds!
