Friends Academy Cross Country and Track

The Friends Academy Cross Country and Track teams are very successful and not a lot of people know. Cross Country and Track are often overlooked and seen as just running in the woods or on the track for no reason but it is a lot more. A lot of people don’t understand the scoring systems so they don’t follow the sport.

The scoring in Cross Country and Track is determined by the place you come in. In Cross Country, the place you come in is the amount of points you get, and the team with the lowest score wins. In Track, (depending on the type of meet and how many teams are there) the place you come in determines the amount of points you get. Usually 1st place is 10 points, 2nd place is 8 points, 3rd place is 6 points, 4th place is 4 points, 5th place is 2 points, and 6th place is 1 point. The team with the most points wins.

In the past year there have been a lot of accomplishments for the Friends Academy Cross Country and Track teams. Both teams have had athletes recognized as All Conference, All County, All Long Island, All State, and All American. The 2021-2022 Cross Country season ended with 4 all county and 3 all conference runners. The team finished 3rd in the county! Aislinn Frazer qualified for the state meet! In Indoor Track we had 5 individual event conference champions and the girls team was second in the conference. Then the girls team won the county meet! We had three individual event champions. We had 12 individuals named All County! Aislinn Frazer qualified for the state meet in 2 events and came back All State! We also had 5 athletes compete in Nike Indoor Nationals. Nyah Thomas, Olivia Carden, Skyler Cohen, and Aislinn Frazer competed in the Sprint Medley Relay and placed 6th which secured them a medal and the honor of All American. Abby Frazer also competed in the Middle School Mile and was 4th in her heat, 25th overall. In Spring Track we had 10 division champions and 11 all division athletes.  We had 7 county champions and 9 all county athletes. Olivia Carden, Dijaye Carpenter, Nyah Thomas, and Aislinn Frazer were also named All Long Island in the Sprint Medley Relay. We had many athletes qualify for the state championship. Friends returned from the state meet with one state championship and 3 all state awards!

We are excited for the rest of this Cross country season. Our next meets are County Champs 10/29/22, State Qualifiers 11/5/22, and for anyone who qualifies for States on 11/12/22.
